Cyclone Remal Triggers Rainfall in Kolkata, IMD Issues Alerts for Multiple States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Remal’ alert for Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, leading to heavy rainfall in parts of Kolkata on Thursday morning. A low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on May 22nd, which is anticipated to transform into a depression by May 24th. The IMD predicts that the cyclonic storm will move northeastwards and reach the northeast Bay of Bengal by May 25th evening. Moderate showers are expected in North and South 24-Parganas along with East Midnapore on Saturday, while isolated areas may experience heavy rainfall. The weather office also forecasts rough to very rough sea conditions over the Bay of Bengal from May 23rd onwards, along with squally weather and strong winds. Fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into the sea during this period.
