FMCG major Dabur India is expanding its footprint in India by establishing a new food processing facility in Tamil Nadu. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to invest Rs 400 crore in the facility, which will be located at the SIPCOT food park in Tindivanam, Villupuram district. This marks Dabur’s first manufacturing unit in the southern part of the country.
The facility is expected to create employment for 250 people and will be a boon for farmers in the nearby delta region, providing them with a new avenue to sell their agricultural produce. The project aligns with the Tamil Nadu government’s vision of attracting capital-intensive and employment-generating industries to the state, contributing to its trillion-dollar economy goal.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaa highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it will open up new opportunities for farmers in the delta region and create a thriving food processing hub. He emphasized the Chief Minister’s commitment to the region’s development, being an MLA from the delta himself.
This development comes on the heels of the state’s recent investment conclave, where several industrial projects were inaugurated and laid the foundation for further economic growth. The conclave attracted a cumulative investment of around Rs 68,000 crore and promised employment to over one lakh people.
Dabur’s investment is a testament to the attractive business environment in Tamil Nadu and the state’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth. The new food processing facility is poised to contribute significantly to the region’s agricultural development and create valuable job opportunities.
