In a thrilling County Championship match between Surrey and Worcestershire, England spinner Shoaib Bashir experienced an over he’d rather forget. He conceded a staggering 38 runs in a single over, thanks to the blistering hitting of Dan Lawrence.
Lawrence, already well on his way to a century, launched a furious assault on Bashir in the 128th over. The former England batter charged down the pitch and sent the first ball soaring out of the ground. Three more sixes followed in rapid succession, each one a testament to Lawrence’s power and timing. The fifth six was a particularly audacious slog-sweep over mid-wicket, leaving Bashir looking bewildered.
Lawrence, aiming to become part of the exclusive club of players who have hit six sixes in an over, narrowly missed out. Bashir’s next delivery, well wide of leg stump, eluded both the wicketkeeper and the boundary rope for five wides. To add insult to injury, Bashir bowled a no ball, which in County Cricket carries a penalty of two runs. Lawrence then took a single before Bashir finally ended the over with a dot ball.
Bashir’s disastrous over will be remembered as a remarkable feat of hitting from Lawrence, who undoubtedly stole the show with his incredible display of power and aggression.
