Dan Walker Rules Out Return to ‘BBC Breakfast,’ Pens Tribute to Sally Nugent

In a recent Instagram Live Q&A session, former ‘BBC Breakfast’ host Dan Walker unequivocally stated that he has no intention of returning to the show after leaving in May 2022. Responding to a fan’s question about a potential comeback, Walker shared a photo of himself and ex-co-host Sally Nugent, with the caption, ‘Not on your nelly.’ This announcement comes after Walker reunited with Nugent at the Burrow Strictly Ball in Blackpool over the weekend, an event organized to support the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease and other MND causes. The pair were accompanied by stars Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton.

Walker took to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Nugent, both elegantly dressed for the occasion, along with a heartfelt message about their friendship. ‘A friend is one of the finest things you can have and one of the best things you can be,’ he wrote. ‘It was lovely to catch-up with @sallynugenttv on Saturday night. But she reminded me how special it is when you get to work with someone who makes each day a little brighter and laughs at your jokes.’

Walker’s departure from ‘BBC Breakfast’ in May 2022 marked a significant change in his career, as he joined Channel 5 as its new anchor. Announcing his decision at the time, he wrote on social media, ‘In a nutshell… Channel 5 came along with big ambitions, with big plans. And I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often.’ He expressed his excitement about the new challenge and the opportunity to present a ‘whole range of new programmes right across the channel.’

Since then, Walker has hosted several shows on Channel 5, including ‘5 News,’ ‘The Yorkshire Dales & The Lakes,’ and ‘Digging for Britain.’ He also presents the weekday breakfast show on Classic FM. Walker’s departure from ‘BBC Breakfast’ and subsequent move to Channel 5 have sparked discussions and speculation within the media industry, with many speculating about the reasons behind his decision. However, Walker has consistently maintained that he is excited about the new opportunities and challenges that his move to Channel 5 presents.
