Danny Mendick, a 30-year-old infielder, has rejoined the Chicago White Sox after an impressive home run streak with Triple-A Charlotte. Mendick hit a home run in five consecutive games for Charlotte, leading the International League in slugging percentage and OPS.
The White Sox made several roster moves on Monday, including adding Mendick, who is slashing .317/.388/.817 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs in 19 games with Charlotte. Reliever John Brebbia returned from the injured list, while starting pitcher Nick Nastrini and infielder Lenyn Sosa were optioned to Charlotte. The Sox also designated infielder Zach Remillard for assignment.
Mendick said he has adjusted his routine and swing, leading to increased power at the plate. The White Sox are hopeful that Mendick can continue his hot streak and provide a much-needed boost to their offense.
Mendick spent the first four seasons of his big-league career with the White Sox (2019-22) before playing 35 games with the New York Mets last season. Brebbia is back on the active roster after going on the injured list with a right calf strain on April 6.
Nastrini and Sosa have struggled to make an impact in the early going, with Nastrini posting a 7.88 ERA in two starts and Sosa hitting just .132 in 12 games.
