For the fourth year running, the company has secured a place on the EPA’s prestigious National Top 100 List of the largest green power users, ranking 54th. This achievement signifies DataBank’s unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and its ambitious goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

In addition to its overall ranking, DataBank also claimed the 15th spot on the Top 30 list of green power consumers in the Tech & Telecom sector, demonstrating its leadership within its industry. This marks a significant year-over-year improvement from its previous rankings of 78th and 17th, respectively.

During the period from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024, DataBank utilized nearly 349 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power, representing a substantial 30% of its total operational power needs. When combined with additional renewable energy certificates (RECs) acquired after this reporting period and grid power, DataBank sources over 60% of its power from renewable sources.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognized by the EPA for our ongoing commitment to green power use,” stated Raul K. Martynek, DataBank CEO. “This achievement underscores our resolve and progress towards our net zero carbon emissions target by 2030. Utilizing green power is a smart business decision, aligning with our customers’ and investors’ expectations. As we expand our data center footprint, we are committed to simultaneously reducing our emissions footprint.”

DataBank’s proactive approach to green power not only benefits the environment but also contributes to the growth of the voluntary green power market. This initiative is a testament to the company’s dedication to sustainable business practices, a commitment that resonates with its stakeholders.

“We are thrilled to be ranked among the top green power users once again, but even more pleased that we are able to provide renewable power to our customers and remain at the forefront of our industry in terms of sustainability,” said Jenny Gerson, head of sustainability for DataBank.

“This list of the largest users of green power across the nation proves that good business practices can also have a positive impact on the environment,” emphasized James Critchfield, Program Director of EPA’s Green Power Partnership. “The EPA applauds the leading organizations within the Green Power Partnership’s Top Partner Rankings for their remarkable commitment to expanding their use of green power and safeguarding our environment.”

According to the U.S. EPA, DataBank’s green power usage of nearly 349 million kWh is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of over 32,000 average American homes.
