David Hughes Appointed as CEO of East West Railway Co.

David Hughes, formerly the Major Programmes Director at Arup, has been appointed as the new CEO of East West Railway Co. (EWR), the promoter of the Oxford to Cambridge railway project, effective June 3, 2024. He succeeds Beth West, who announced her departure in April.

Hughes brings extensive experience in the transportation sector to his new role. Prior to joining Arup, he served as Director General for Rail Infrastructure at the Department for Transport, Strategy & Programme Director at Transport for the North, and Director of Investment Delivery Planning at Transport for London.

Hughes expressed his excitement about joining the EWR team at this critical juncture. He emphasized his commitment to delivering transportation connections that enhance the lives of communities and promote economic growth.

Meanwhile, due to pre-election guidelines, EWR’s statutory consultation program, initially scheduled to commence in June, has been postponed. The remaining Community Conversations events in Bletchley and Marston Moreteyne have also been affected by the postponement.
