David Mamet Criticizes Hollywood Diversity Standards, Antisemitic Colleges
Pulitzer-winning playwright David Mamet has expressed strong disapproval of Hollywood’s diversity initiatives, labeling them as “garbage” and “fascist totalitarianism.” Speaking during a recent media event, Mamet elaborated on his views, asserting that many powerful individuals, including those within the White House, lack empathy towards Jewish people.
Mamet’s remarks came amidst a broader critique of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ new diversity requirements for “Best Picture” Oscar eligibility, set to take effect in 2025. He decried these standards as burdensome and questioned their effectiveness in addressing industry discrimination.
Addressing antisemitism on college campuses, Mamet urged fellow Jews to reconsider their support for Democrats, claiming that liberals have “never done anything for the Jews” and that former President Trump was the only politician to improve their well-being. He emphasized the importance of Jews facing reality and withdrawing support from those who do not prioritize their interests.
Mamet is not the only figure in Hollywood to express concerns about the DEI standards. Last year, voting members voiced apprehension that the guidelines would hinder creativity. Actor Richard Dreyfuss also criticized the measures, declaring that they “make me vomit” and that artists should not be compelled to conform to prevailing moral ideologies.
The renowned playwright’s comments have sparked widespread reactions in the entertainment industry, reflecting the ongoing debate surrounding diversity and inclusion initiatives in Hollywood and beyond.
