David Miller joins chorus of criticism against ‘Impact player’ rule in IPL 2024

Players Continue to Express Concerns About ‘Impact Player’ Rule in IPL 2024

The ‘Impact player’ rule has sparked controversy in the ongoing IPL season, with several prominent players voicing their disapproval. Gujarat Titans batter David Miller has added his name to the growing list of critics, expressing his belief that the rule should be scrapped.

‘For me, I am not a massive fan of the rule,’ said Miller. ‘The game of cricket has 11 players and it would be nice to stick to that.’

Miller’s comments echo those of Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who previously stated that he is not a fan of the rule and believes international cricket should serve as a model for the IPL.

‘I am not a big fan of the Impact Sub rule,’ said Sharma. ‘It is going to hold all-rounders back, eventually cricket is played by 11 players not 12 players.’

Other players who have criticized the rule include Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj. Patel believes the rule makes it more difficult for bowlers, while Siraj suggests it disrupts the traditional format of the game.

The ‘Impact player’ rule allows teams to substitute a player during their innings based on match conditions. However, critics argue that it could diminish the role of all-rounders and create an unfair advantage for teams with stronger benches.

Despite the criticism, the IPL has indicated that it is open to reviewing the rule at the end of the season. However, it remains to be seen whether the rule will be modified or scrapped altogether in future seasons.
