The Donmar Warehouse’s critically acclaimed Christmas revival of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ has announced its eagerly anticipated West End transfer. The production, which stars David Tennant and Cush Jumbo, sold out months in advance due to the star power of Tennant and the innovative sound design that saw audience members donning headphones to hear the mic’d up actors.
The production, directed by Max Webster, has been praised for its powerful performances and immersive sound design, which has been described as ‘a triumph’ by critics. Tennant gives a standout performance as an unusually malevolent Macbeth, with Jumbo’s Lady M rather brilliantly fulfilling the role of his corroding soul, growing weaker and more virtuous as he grew stronger and madder’.
The West End transfer will take place at the Harold Pinter Theatre from October 1st to December 14th. The binaural sound design will also be present and correct, and while the Pinter is three times bigger than the Donmar, it’s one of the West End’s more intimate theatres and should foster a similar sense of closeness to the cast.
One third of all tickets will be priced at £35 or less, with £25 front row tickets available for purchase on the day of each performance. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Wednesday August 25th, but Donmar members can purchase tickets now.
‘Macbeth’ is one of the most iconic plays in English literature, and this production is sure to be one of the highlights of the West End theatre season. With its star-studded cast, innovative sound design, and powerful performances, it’s a must-see for theatre lovers and anyone looking for a thrilling and unforgettable night out.
