The highly anticipated Dead by Daylight and Castlevania crossover has officially launched, bringing a thrilling new chapter to the asymmetrical horror game. The collaboration introduces a formidable new killer, The Dark Lord (Dracula), and a skilled new survivor, Trevor Belmont. This crossover is a feast for fans of both franchises, offering not only new playable characters but also unique abilities and cosmetic content.
The most striking addition is undoubtedly the new killer, The Dark Lord, who embodies the fearsome power of Dracula himself. His unique ability lies in his shape-shifting prowess, allowing him to transform into three different forms: the classic vampire form, a ferocious wolf, and a swift bat. Each form offers distinct advantages in gameplay.
The vampire form, his default, allows him to throw fiery projectiles and float effortlessly over obstacles, giving him a distinct advantage in traversing the map. The wolf form, on the other hand, grants enhanced tracking abilities, allowing The Dark Lord to see clues like scratch marks or follow scent orbs left by survivors. This form also allows him to collect these orbs, providing a speed boost for quick pursuit. Lastly, the bat form eliminates his terror radius, enabling him to silently stalk his prey. This form also allows him to teleport to nearby vault locations and boasts the sharpest senses, revealing scratch marks constantly and amplifying survivor footsteps, even if they can’t be visually seen. Switching between these forms strategically will be key to mastering The Dark Lord’s playstyle, adding a new layer of depth and complexity to the killer roster.
Complementing Dracula, the new survivor, Trevor Belmont, arrives with three new perks. The most impactful perk, Eyes of Belmont, allows survivors to see the killer’s aura for a longer period after completing a generator, significantly enhancing their ability to react and strategize against the killer. The other two perks are more specific: Exultation lets Trevor upgrade a held item if he successfully pallet stuns the killer, while Moment of Glory gives him a ‘broken’ status effect when injured, gradually regenerating health after a set time.
To further celebrate the crossover, both the killer and survivor receive new cosmetic skins. Trevor gains a variety of skins, including ones inspired by his iconic ancestors, Leon and Simon Belmont. Dracula, meanwhile, has multiple skins based on his various appearances throughout the Castlevania series, including versions from Dracula X and Castlevania Chronicles. Interestingly, there’s also a skin that transforms Dracula into Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, promising a ‘completely new experience’ according to the developers.
The crossover festivities don’t end there. On September 12, Dead by Daylight players can look forward to additional content, including a Maria Renard outfit for Kate Denson and a Sypha Belnades outfit for Mikaela Reid.
And for those who love the Castlevania series but haven’t yet jumped into Dead by Daylight, there’s another piece of exciting news. A new collection of classic Castlevania titles, titled the Castlevania Dominus Collection, will be released on the Nintendo Switch on September 12th. This collection includes the popular Nintendo DS titles Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia, alongside the classic arcade title Haunted Castle. This release offers a fantastic opportunity to relive the beloved Castlevania experiences or discover them for the first time on a modern platform.
The Dead by Daylight and Castlevania crossover is a testament to the enduring power of both franchises, offering a thrilling blend of horror, action, and nostalgia. Whether you’re a dedicated Dead by Daylight player or a Castlevania aficionado, this collaboration provides a unique and exciting way to experience these beloved worlds in a new way.
