A tragic fire in a hotel in South Korea has claimed seven lives and left 12 others injured. The blaze broke out on Thursday night in a room on the eighth floor of a hotel located in Bucheon, a city situated about 25 kilometers west of Seoul.
According to a statement released by Seoul’s interior ministry, the fire was extinguished approximately three hours after it began. However, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The incident left three individuals with serious injuries, highlighting the severity of the blaze.
The nine-story hotel, which housed 64 rooms, was occupied by 27 guests at the time of the fire. While the blaze did not spread extensively within the building, the smoke generated by the fire proved fatal for several individuals. Seoul’s Yonhap news agency reported that the smoke was the primary factor leading to the casualties despite the fire’s limited spread within the building.
This tragic event comes on the heels of another devastating fire in South Korea, which occurred in June at a lithium battery plant. That fire tragically resulted in the deaths of 23 people, making it one of the country’s worst factory disasters in recent years. Authorities are currently investigating the causes of both incidents, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
