The highly anticipated superhero film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, continues to dominate the box office. The film, a production from 20th Century Fox and Marvel, has raked in a total of ₹73.65 crore in its first four days of release, with an estimated ₹7 crore earned on day four. This successful start comes after the film’s impressive opening weekend, where it collected ₹66.65 crore.
The Hollywood hit has seen consistent surges in its earnings. On its third day of release, the film earned an estimated ₹22.3 crore, with the English version contributing ₹11.2 crore and the Hindi version generating ₹9.1 crore. The film’s success is further evidenced by its strong occupancy across various locations, particularly in Chennai and Bengaluru for the English and Hindi versions respectively.
While the morning shows for the English (3D version) version of the movie saw a low occupancy of 9.58 per cent, theatres for the night shows were filled up to 22.49 per cent. Chennai recorded the highest occupancy, of 28.50 per cent, spread across 92 shows. For the Hindi (3D version), Bengaluru recorded the highest occupancy. Theatres were filled 35 per cent in the night, 16 per cent in the afternoon, and 12 per cent in the evening.
The film boasts a star-studded cast alongside the iconic duo. Emma Corin and Blake Lively add their star power to the ensemble, while Leslie Uggams, Matthew Macfadyen, and Brianna Hildebrand contribute their talent.
Beyond its domestic performance, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is also proving to be a global success. The film set a new record for Thursday preview screenings for an R-rated movie in America, selling an estimated $38.5 million worth of movie tickets. This positive reception suggests a strong potential for continued box office dominance.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is poised to revitalize the Marvel business, which had faced some challenges after the release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The superhero factory experienced a dip in box office performance in late 2023, hitting a record low in November with the launch of ‘The Marvels’, which opened with just $47 million. With ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, Marvel seems to be on a strong trajectory for a comeback, aiming to regain its dominant position in the superhero genre.
