CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has asserted that the INDIA bloc will emerge victorious in the upcoming general elections and establish a secular government at the Centre, emphasizing that the defeat of the BJP is imminent. Addressing the media on Thursday, Mr. Yechury hinted at significant changes post-elections.
He strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision, highlighting the persistent poverty and economic struggles faced by the masses. Inflation and poverty continue to plague the country, while the wealth accumulated by a mere one percent of businessmen is staggering, equivalent to the income of a whopping 70% of the population.
Referencing Mr. Modi’s recent allegations of black money funding for the Congress party by Ambani and Adani, Mr. Yechury remarked that Mr. Modi’s own comments inadvertently acknowledge the prevalence of black money in the country. He further alleged that Mr. Adani’s immense wealth was amassed under the patronage of Mr. Modi, who now conveniently targets Mr. Adani.
Mr. Yechury accused the BJP of pursuing a divisive communal agenda and undermining key institutions like Parliament, the judiciary, and the Election Commission of India (ECI). He expressed concern that central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have become politicized. He warned that if the BJP retains power, it could potentially alter the fundamental principles of the Constitution and the rule of law.
The CPI(M) leader emphasized that the people have grown weary of the Modi government and a shift in their mindset is evident. He reiterated the constitutional provision for reservations for backward classes, extending this right to minority communities facing socio-economic challenges. However, he criticized the BJP’s stance against Muslim reservations, viewing it as an attack on minority rights. CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao was also present at the media briefing.
