Delaware Embraces Clean Energy: Chaberton and Pivot Power New Community Solar Projects

Delaware is taking a major step toward its clean energy goals with the construction of two new community solar projects in Kent County. These projects, developed by Maryland-based Chaberton Energy and owned and operated by Colorado-based Pivot Energy, represent a significant investment in renewable energy for the state.

The projects, Crestone Solar Farm and Blackburn Solar Farm, will collectively generate nearly 10 megawatts of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of over 900 Delaware homes. Both projects are expected to begin generating electricity in 2025, providing subscribers with affordable, clean energy and an average of 10% savings on their electricity bills.

The Crestone Solar Farm, located in Harrington, will span 25 acres and generate enough energy to power over 500 homes. The land for the project was owned by three sisters who decided to preserve it for future generations by partnering with Chaberton and Pivot.

Blackburn Solar Farm, located in Magnolia, will cover approximately 20 acres and provide enough electricity to power over 400 homes.

Senator Stephanie Hansen, a strong advocate for Delaware’s clean energy transition, expressed her pride in the state’s progress. “Our ability to use distributed energy resources can help our farmers, take pressure off the power grid, and help Delawareans at all economic levels save money on their power bills.”

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Crestone project on October 24th included remarks from Senator Hansen, Chaberton CEO Stefano Ratti, Energize Delaware Executive Director Drew Slater, and other key figures involved in the project. The event was also an opportunity to celebrate Chaberton’s commitment to the community, with $10,000 donations presented to the Lake Forest High School Future Farmers of America and the Delaware Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Chaberton Energy, a public benefit corporation, is focused on developing sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy projects. The company was recently named to the 2024 Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies, ranking as the No. 1 fastest-growing community solar company and the No. 2 fastest-growing Maryland company.

Pivot Energy, a Certified B-Corporation, is a national renewable energy provider and independent power producer committed to accelerating the clean energy transition. The company develops, finances, builds, owns, and manages solar and energy storage projects, offering a range of solutions to help businesses and communities achieve their decarbonization goals.

These new community solar projects represent a significant step forward for Delaware’s clean energy goals and demonstrate the growing commitment to a sustainable future. They are a testament to the collaboration between private companies, government officials, and community leaders who are working together to create a more resilient and environmentally responsible energy landscape.
