Due to a cattle run-over incident near Kasara station at approximately 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening, a Kasara-bound local train faced significant delays between Khardi and Kasara. The incident reportedly caused a malfunction in the train’s braking system, requiring the assistance of an additional engine to transport it to Kasara station. This incident resulted in delays for at least five other local trains. Around 6 pm, a technical glitch affected a train near Ghatkopar station in Mumbai, leading to its diversion to Thane station. The train was subsequently sent to a car shed for repairs. As a consequence of these incidents, commuters experienced overcrowding on platforms and within local trains due to the delayed services. Some trains were reported to be running 30-40 minutes behind schedule, causing inconvenience to passengers. In an effort to enhance safety during the upcoming monsoon season, Central Railway General Manager Ram Karan Yadav and his team conducted a comprehensive pre-monsoon inspection of the critical Karjat-Lonavala section on the Pune-Mumbai route last week. The inspection involved hiking the Khandala Ghat hills, which feature 52 tunnels, steep gradients, and towering hills up to 250 meters high. This section is crucial for the Mumbai division’s operations and includes the steepest gradient in the country at 1:37, indicating a 1-meter rise for every 37 meters. The inspection, which began at 5 am and concluded at 7 am, covered approximately 3.5 kilometers of hilly terrain and included critical locations from Monkey Hill Cabin to Thakurwadi. Divisional Railway Manager Rajnish Goyal and other senior officials accompanied the General Manager during the inspection.
