Delhi Airport Canopy Collapse: Blame Game Erupts Between BJP and Congress

A tragic incident at Delhi Airport on Friday, June 28, has sparked a political blame game between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. A portion of the airport’s canopy collapsed onto parked cars, resulting in one fatality and eight injuries.

The primary reason for the collapse is attributed to record-breaking rainfall that pummeled the national capital following days of intense heatwave. This downpour brought Delhi to its knees, with various parts of the city experiencing severe flooding.

The Congress has accused the Narendra Modi-led government of hastily inaugurating the terminal, claiming it was half-finished and alleging “corruption” and “criminal negligence” in the construction. They assert that the rush to open the terminal was driven by the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

However, the BJP has countered these allegations, stating that the section of Terminal 1 (T1) that collapsed was actually opened in 2009, during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s tenure.

This incident has ignited a political firestorm, with both parties attempting to capitalize on the tragedy for political gain. The blame game continues, with each party striving to deflect responsibility and cast blame on the other. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of infrastructure safety and proper maintenance, particularly in the face of extreme weather events.
