Delhi Airport Introduces Quick Baggage Drop Solution for Faster Check-in

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has introduced a new self-service mechanism for baggage drop, aiming to significantly reduce check-in time. The Quick Drop Solution, launched on June 17th, allows passengers to complete the check-in process in as little as 30 seconds, down from one minute. This makes Indira Gandhi International Airport the first in India to offer such a solution, following the model of Toronto Airport in Canada.

The airport has installed approximately 50 Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) units across Terminals 1 and 3, currently available for passengers traveling with Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express. Previously, travelers would need to visit check-in desks, print boarding passes, and collect luggage tags at common use self-service (CUSS) kiosks. After dropping their bags at the designated units, passengers would then have to scan their boarding passes or undergo biometric verification.

The new Quick Drop Solution streamlines the process by eliminating the need for boarding pass or biometric validation. With the baggage tag containing all necessary details, passengers simply place their bags onto the conveyor belt, significantly reducing the processing time.

“We have introduced the Self-Service Bag Drop Quick Drop Solution at Delhi Airport, setting a new standard for passenger convenience and efficiency in India. This initiative is aimed at leveraging advanced technology to enhance the travel experience,” said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL, as quoted by PTI. “The Quick Drop Solution not only speeds up the baggage drop process but also ensures a smoother journey for our passengers,” he added.

The new mechanism simplifies the process by allowing passengers to collect and attach their luggage tags at CUSS kiosks upon arrival at the airport. Once the bags are placed on the SBD conveyor belt, the system automatically opens the respective airline’s application on the SBD machine with a single click. The SBD system internally checks all relevant criteria and business rules defined by the airlines after passengers agree to the dangerous goods self-declaration form with a single click.
