A roof collapse incident at Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport on Friday morning has caused widespread disruption, leaving passengers stranded and raising concerns about infrastructure safety. The incident resulted in one fatality and eight injuries, prompting the airport to suspend all flight operations from Terminal 1 until further notice.
IndiGo flights are now operating from Terminal 2 and 3, while SpiceJet flights are operating from Terminal 3. Passengers with flights scheduled from Terminal 1 are advised to check their flight status and allow for sufficient travel time, as airlines have been directed to issue refunds or provide alternate flights.
The collapse of a canopy at Terminal 1 led to the damage of four vehicles and injuries to eight individuals. The injured were initially treated at the Medanta Centre at Delhi Airport and subsequently transferred to ESI Hospital and the Indian Spinal Injury Centre.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced a compensation of ₹20 lakh for the deceased and ₹3 lakh for the injured. In light of the incident, all other airports will undergo a detailed structural inspection.
