Delhi Airport Strengthens Security Measures Ahead of Election Results
Authorities have taken stringent measures to enhance security around the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi ahead of the vote counting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. To ensure the safety of flights and VVIP aircraft movement, Section 144 has been imposed, prohibiting the use of drones and laser beams within the airport’s approach path from June 1 to July 30.
The restrictions aim to mitigate potential risks and safety concerns posed by these activities, which can distract pilots and interfere with aviation operations. Additionally, the prohibition seeks to prevent any misuse of drones by malicious actors.
To address concerns raised about laser beam activities, the order emphasizes the potential hazards they pose to pilots’ vision, particularly during events held near the airport. These restrictions are necessary to maintain the safety and security of government property, public infrastructure, and individuals.
Elaborate Arrangements for Vote Counting Day
Delhi Police has made elaborate arrangements to ensure a secure vote-counting process at all seven counting centers across Delhi on June 4. Around 70 companies of the force will be deployed to maintain order and safety during the counting process.
The Chief Election Commissioner has expressed confidence in the robustness of the counting system, emphasizing the extensive measures in place to prevent errors or irregularities. Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by EVM votes, as requested by opposition parties.
Lessons Learned from Intense Heatwave
The intense heatwave conditions faced during the elections have highlighted the need for adjustments to the poll process. The Chief Election Commissioner has acknowledged the challenges and emphasized the importance of concluding the voting process before the onset of extreme heat in future elections.
