October 31st – Diwali (Thursday):

The festival of lights, Diwali, is a significant celebration across India, and Delhi will join the nation in observing this day with a ban on liquor sales.

November’s Dry Days:

In November, the city will observe two dry days:

The Excise Department has stated that these dry days are intended to honor national figures and religious observances. The decision to close liquor shops on Gandhi Jayanti, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is a common practice across India as a sign of respect for the ‘Father of the Nation.’ Similarly, major religious festivals like Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and Guru Tegh Bahadur Shaheedi Diwas are also recognized as dry days.

However, there’s a silver lining for hotel guests. Hotels possessing L-15 and L-15F licenses will be allowed to serve alcohol to their guests, ensuring a smooth experience for those staying at these establishments.

The Excise Department has made it clear that no compensation will be provided to licensed shop owners for the suspension of liquor sales during these dry days. They have also issued a stern warning, emphasizing that any violation of the order will result in penalties and fines.

It’s important to note that the order applies exclusively to the retail sale of alcohol. Hotels meeting the licensing requirements will be allowed to continue serving alcohol to their guests.
