Delhi and its surrounding regions are experiencing a deluge of rain as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Friday, September 13th, 2024. The morning brought light to moderate showers, leading to waterlogged streets and traffic snarls in several areas. The IMD attributed the rainfall to a well-marked low pressure area over northwest Uttar Pradesh, indicating that Delhi is likely to remain wet. The agency predicts that the national capital will see more rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 kmph throughout Friday. This could result in further waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas, and potential traffic disruptions. The maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday is expected to be around 28 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees below normal.
The IMD’s orange alert suggests that the rainfall will be moderate to heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Specifically, the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) in New Delhi has warned of heavy rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and lightning in areas like Kanjhawala, Mundaka, Pashchim Vihar, Rajauri Garden, Budha Jayanti Park, Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, and other regions in the NCR.
It’s not just Delhi-NCR that is facing heavy rainfall. The IMD has also warned about heavy precipitation in several other states, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, and Madhya Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, the Relief Commissioner has issued a warning about potential localized flooding of roads and waterlogging in low-lying areas within the NCR districts. The commissioner urged citizens to avoid staying in vulnerable structures during this period.
As Delhi navigates through this rainy spell, residents are advised to stay aware of the weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The IMD’s orange alert serves as a reminder to be prepared for potentially disruptive weather conditions and to exercise caution when traveling or engaging in outdoor activities.
