The national capital of Delhi woke up to a welcome respite from the relentless humidity on Friday morning, as heavy rains and thunderstorms swept across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting further rainfall in the next two hours for the Delhi and NCR region.
The IMD statement, shared on Twitter, outlined the specific areas likely to experience light to moderate rainfall: “Light rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places in Delhi (Narela, Alipur, Badili, Pitampura, Punjabi Bagh, Seelampur, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Red fort, President House, Rajiv Chowk, ITO, India Gate, Lodi Road, RK Puram, Defence Colony, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, IGNOU, NCR (Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Ballabhgarh) Meham (Haryana) Saharanpur, Deoband, Muzaffarnagar, Sadabad (UP) during next 2 hours.”
The IMD further indicated that areas like Seemapuri, Dilshad Garden, Patel Nagar, and Burari are also anticipated to receive light to moderate rainfall. Looking beyond the immediate forecast, the weather department has announced that the northern parts of India will likely experience moderate rainfall throughout the current week.

The IMD, acknowledging the potential traffic disruptions due to water logging, provided a set of actions for the public: 1. Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination. 2. Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard. 3. Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often. 4. Avoid staying in vulnerable structures.
In a separate report, the IMD highlighted the significant rainfall experienced by Delhi between 8:30 AM IST on July 25, 2024, and 6:30 AM IST on July 26, 2024. The highest precipitation was recorded at Delhi University, with 89.5 mm of rainfall. Other locations also saw significant amounts: IGNOU (34.5 mm), Pitampura, Narayana, and Pushpa Vihar (8.5 mm each), and Pragati Maidan (6.5 mm). (With inputs from ANI)
