Delhi Bathed in Rain, Yellow Alert Issued as IMD Predicts More Showers

Heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi, including Gurgaon and Noida, on Wednesday, September 4th. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the national capital, signaling potential for more showers in the coming days. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 25.2 degrees Celsius with humidity levels reaching 85%.

According to the IMD’s weather forecast, Delhi NCR is expected to experience intermittent rains and thunderstorms over the next several days. The agency predicts “scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan; isolated to scattered rainfall over Punjab & Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during the week.” The 10-day forecast indicates cloudy skies, rains, and thunderstorms for Delhi until September 14th.

The downpour on Wednesday caused significant waterlogging in Delhi NCR, particularly affecting Gurgaon. This led to traffic disruptions, prompting Delhi Police to advise commuters to plan their peak-hour travel carefully due to potential congestion caused by waterlogging and fallen trees. Earlier, on September 2nd, similar issues arose due to rainfall in the city.

Delhi’s regional weather forecasting agency has issued a more localized alert, predicting “light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorms and lightning is very likely to occur at Shikarpur, Khurja, Pahasu, Gabhana, Jattari (UP) and Dholpur (Rajasthan)”. The agency also anticipates light to moderate rainfall across Delhi and NCR, including several cities in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, light showers are expected in various regions of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan within the next two hours.
