A powerful explosion rocked Delhi’s Rohini neighborhood early Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through the capital and igniting a heated political debate. The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:47 am, caused significant damage to a section of a CRPF school wall and several nearby vehicles. While thankfully no injuries were reported, the blast has raised serious concerns about public safety and triggered an intense investigation into its origins.
The Delhi Police, assisted by multiple security agencies, are probing a possible connection to pro-Khalistani elements. Sources within the police department have revealed that one line of inquiry focuses on whether the explosion was a retaliatory act for recent actions taken by Indian authorities against separatist groups.
The device, identified as an improvised explosive device (IED), was likely planted late Saturday night and detonated between 7:35 and 7:40 am Sunday. While causing substantial structural damage to the school and surrounding property, the IED did not contain shrapnel, indicating a potential intent to send a message rather than inflict mass casualties.
Adding to the growing unease, a Telegram post by a group calling itself “Justice League India” began circulating on social media. The post featured a clip of the blast overlaid with the slogan “Khalistan Zindabad” and warned Indian authorities of further actions. The post, coupled with the investigation’s focus on pro-Khalistani elements, has fueled concerns that the blast could be linked to extremist groups seeking to make a forceful statement.
The incident has quickly become a political football, with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) trading accusations. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, from the AAP, blamed the BJP-led central government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, drawing parallels to the ‘underworld’ era in Mumbai. She stated that the BJP was neglecting its responsibility to maintain order and using its time to disrupt the work of the Delhi government, resulting in a surge in violence and crime.
Atishi also warned of further mismanagement if the BJP gains control of the Delhi government, claiming that essential services like healthcare, power, and water supply would deteriorate to the same level as the current law and order situation.
In response, BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi launched a scathing attack on AAP and Atishi, calling her a “puppet CM” and accusing her of politicizing a sensitive issue for personal gain. The political blame game underscores the stark divide between the two parties, highlighting the volatile atmosphere that now permeates the capital.
The Delhi Police investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the truth behind the blast and bringing those responsible to justice. The incident has placed public safety and security at the forefront of the city’s concerns, prompting a call for decisive action and a unified approach to address the escalating threat.
