Delhi Chokes on Diwali Pollution: AQI Plunges to ‘Very Poor’ as Residents Suffer

Delhi’s air quality took a nosedive on Diwali, plunging into the ‘very poor’ category as the city celebrated the festival of lights. According to SAFAR-India data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at a concerning 329 at 8:30 am, raising serious concerns about the health of residents.

The deteriorating air quality was a stark reminder of the city’s ongoing struggle with pollution. A local resident, speaking to news agency ANI, lamented the impact of the pollution, stating, “There are several problems which we are facing due to pollution, especially burning sensation in the eye…Nothing is being done to tackle the issue of pollution….”

The situation in Anand Vihar was even more alarming, with the AQI reaching 418 and falling into the ‘Severe’ category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This data paints a grim picture of the air quality across the national capital, emphasizing the urgent need for effective measures to combat pollution.

The annual spike in pollution during Diwali, fueled by firecrackers and other factors, has become a recurring problem in Delhi. The city’s residents are left grappling with the consequences of this environmental crisis, demanding immediate action from authorities to address the root causes of pollution and protect public health.
