The national capital, Delhi, received a much-needed respite from the oppressive heatwave on Friday as rainfall graced various parts of the city. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky with rain accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Konkan, and Goa for the next five days. These regions are anticipated to experience heavy rainfall, as stated by the weather department.
Konkan and Goa are predicted to receive isolated heavy rainfall (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on June 21 and 22. From June 23 to 25, the region is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) to extremely heavy rainfall (>204.4 mm).
Similarly, Kerala and Mahe are expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on June 21 and 22. From June 23 to 25, the region is likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) to extremely heavy rainfall (>204.4 mm).
Coastal Karnataka is predicted to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall to extremely heavy falls on June 21 and 22. From June 23 to 25, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall to extremely heavy falls are anticipated. The IMD also predicts that South Interior Karnataka is likely to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 21 and 22.
The IMD reported that the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some more parts of Maharashtra, the remaining parts of Vidarbha, some parts of Madhya Pradesh, some more parts of Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. It has also advanced into some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, the remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and some parts of Jharkhand.
Heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in a few parts of West Uttar Pradesh and a few parts of Jammu Division on June 21.
