Delhi HC Denies Bail to Manish Sisodia in Excise Policy Case

The Delhi High Court has rejected the bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy. The court observed that Sisodia held a powerful and influential position within the Delhi government, which could potentially allow him to influence material witnesses and tamper with evidence, including electronic evidence. The court also noted that there was no delay on the part of the prosecution or the trial court in presenting documents and framing charges against Sisodia. Sisodia had challenged a trial court’s April 30 order rejecting his bail pleas in corruption and money laundering cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), respectively, in connection with alleged irregularities in the formulation and execution of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. Meanwhile, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended Sisodia’s judicial custody till May 31 in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam. The ED had arrested Sisodia on March 9 last year, while the CBI arrested him earlier in the alleged liquor scam.
