Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday visited Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail, where they had a 30-minute meeting. Bharadwaj later addressed the media, stating that Kejriwal had specifically asked him to convey that the public should not worry about him. Kejriwal, who was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, has remained steadfast in his position as Chief Minister despite the charges against him. The Aam Aadmi Party has also consistently maintained that Kejriwal will continue to lead the government from within the jail.
During their meeting in the ‘mulakat jangla’ of the jail, an iron mesh barrier that separates visitors from inmates, Bharadwaj and Kejriwal reportedly had a phone conversation. Bharadwaj emphasized that Kejriwal remains strong and resolute, and is determined to continue his fight with the support of the people of Delhi.
The ‘mulakat jangla’ allows visitors and inmates to communicate by sitting on opposite sides of the mesh. Kejriwal has previously received visits from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP’s national general secretary Sandeep Pathak in Tihar Jail. After his arrest, Kejriwal had instructed his ministers to address critical issues such as water supply and availability of medicines in government hospitals. He had also urged party MLAs to visit their constituencies and provide assistance to the people there.
