Delhi Police Announces Traffic Arrangements for Major Political Rallies

In the lead-up to two significant political rallies scheduled for May 18, 2024, Delhi Police has implemented comprehensive traffic arrangements across the national capital. The first rally will feature an address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in North East Delhi, while the second will host a Congress leader in the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency.

To facilitate the smooth flow of traffic, certain roads will be affected by the special arrangements. Commuters are advised to avoid areas around Ram Lila Ground and Ashok Vihar Phase-IV from 2:00 PM onwards. Additionally, routes such as Chaudhari Gulab Singh Road, KC Goel Marg, Nahar Singh Marg, and Satyawati College Road in Ashok Vihar will be impacted.

Similarly, traffic arrangements will be in place around the Yamuna Khadar area and Kartarpur (Shastri Park Pusta Road) from 2:00 PM onwards. Commuters are requested to avoid Wazirabad Road, including Signature Bridge, Pusta Road from Shastri Park to Khajuri Chowk, and nearby areas.

To ensure the safety and security of the events, a multi-layered security cordon will be deployed, involving the Special Protection Group (SPG), security units of the Delhi Police, and local law enforcement. Over 2,000 security and traffic personnel will be deployed to manage crowds, control traffic, and prevent any untoward incidents. Comprehensive security measures, including venue screening and area scanning, have been completed, with a final inspection scheduled for Saturday before the rallies commence.

The inner security cordon for the Prime Minister’s rally will comprise SPG commandos, while the second layer will be manned by the PM security wing officials. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has convened a meeting with senior officers to assess and finalize security arrangements across the national capital.
