Delhi Police Detains Eatery Owner for Selling Biryani on Plates with Lord Ram’s Image
In a recent incident, the Delhi Police detained the owner of an eatery in Jahangirpuri, northwest Delhi, following a complaint that he was selling biryani on disposable plates bearing the image of Lord Ram. The matter came to light when the police received a call on Saturday afternoon reporting the alleged sale of biryani on plates with the religious figure’s picture.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found several individuals protesting outside the shop. The officers pacified the protesters by assuring them that a thorough investigation would be conducted. The shopkeeper was detained under CrPC sections 107/151 (preventive detention) and later released after his explanation and the seizure of the plates.
According to a police officer, the eatery owner had purchased 1000 plates from a factory, and only four of them had the image of Lord Ram. The shopkeeper claimed that he was unaware of the presence of the religious images on the plates, a statement that was confirmed by the factory owners.
The Delhi Police are currently investigating the matter, and no case has been filed as of yet. The incident has raised concerns about the potential for religious sensitivities to be inflamed through such actions.
