A shocking incident unfolded in the Jamia Nagar area of southeast Delhi on Saturday night, leaving two Delhi Police personnel injured. Inspector Narpal Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jamia Nagar police station, and Constable Ramkesh were allegedly attacked by a man and his son while on patrol duty. The altercation stemmed from a routine traffic stop.
The incident began when the SHO and his team noticed a Royal Enfield motorcycle making excessive noise as it approached the Zakir Nagar market from Kabristan Chowk. Upon stopping the motorcycle for inspection, they discovered that the silencer had been modified, resulting in noise levels exceeding permissible limits and violating the Motor Vehicles Act. The police officer instructed his staff to take legal action against the rider, identified as Asif (24).
However, the situation escalated when Asif called his father, Riyazuddin, to the scene. Riyazuddin allegedly attempted to forcibly take the motorcycle away and threatened the SHO with dire consequences, urging the police to settle the matter. This led to a heated argument that quickly turned violent.
During the ensuing scuffle, Riyazuddin allegedly grabbed the SHO while Asif punched him in the face, targeting the area near his eyes. The father-son duo also attacked Constable Ramkesh and other police personnel.
An FIR has been registered against Asif and his father, Riyazuddin, for obstructing a public servant from performing his duties and physically assaulting the SHO and other police officers on duty. Both accused have been arrested by the police. This incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers while carrying out their duties and underscores the importance of respecting authority and following traffic regulations.
