Delhi Schools Bomb Scare: Police Investigate Threat Emails with Links to Russia

Over a hundred schools in Delhi, the national capital of India, were targeted with bomb threats via email on Wednesday, triggering a comprehensive investigation by the Delhi Police. The threats have raised significant concerns about a potential conspiracy involving the combined intelligence efforts of China and Pakistan’s ISI.

The initial probe has revealed a connection to Russia, as the email address used to send the threats has been traced back to the Russian Federation. The email used to convey the threats to over 100 schools in the Delhi-NCR region during the early hours of Wednesday contained the term ‘Swaraiim,’ a word used by the Salafi jihadist group since 2014.

According to the Delhi Police, the group has employed this term as a means of disseminating Islamist propaganda. The email address from which the threatening messages were sent is ‘sawariim@mail.ru.’

Officials have stated that the investigation will be conducted by the Counter Intelligence Team Special Cell, with the IFSO unit actively attempting to determine the origin of the email. To date, the connection to a Russian IP address has been established.

Preliminary investigations suggest that this incident is part of a broader conspiracy. The Delhi Police has confirmed that 131 schools in Delhi received threatening emails on Wednesday.

In response to the threats, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has labeled the emails as ‘hoaxes’ in an official statement, urging the public to remain calm. The MHA has assured that the Delhi Police and other security agencies are following established protocols to address the situation.

The MHA has also issued an advisory, urging schools to closely monitor their official emails and promptly report any potential threats to the concerned authorities. The advisory emphasizes the importance of school administrators and heads of both government and private recognized schools to ensure that emails or messages received on the official school email address are checked promptly at all times.
