Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh has addressed the delay in the CUET-UG results, assuring students that the results will be declared soon, followed by the commencement of counseling. He acknowledged a two-week delay in the process, but confirmed that first-year classes, for which admissions are through CUET, are expected to begin by August 16 or 17. Regular semesters for second and third-year law students, B.Tech. students, and fifth-year law students will commence on August 1. Singh emphasized the university’s commitment to covering the delay and urged students to remain optimistic.
The Vice-Chancellor also shed light on the financial challenges faced by 12 Delhi University-funded colleges. He described the situation as “very difficult and strange,” citing issues with professor salaries and postings. A committee has already submitted a report to the government addressing the matter. Singh underscored the urgency of finding solutions, recognizing the impact of the financial constraints on both students and teachers. He mentioned that due to a high number of vacancies (over 60%), these colleges will need to explore alternative recruitment methods. He urged the Delhi government to take necessary actions to ensure the well-being of teachers and students.
Looking ahead, Singh expressed optimism regarding the upcoming Union Budget, highlighting the university’s receipt of adequate grants from the Government of India in the past. He anticipates the budget’s role in supporting the goal of achieving a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, stating that education and health are priority sectors. With the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in its third year, the university is preparing for its full-scale adoption in colleges starting next year. Singh emphasized the need for increased investment in education and infrastructure, highlighting the potential of the Union Budget to contribute significantly in this regard.
