Delhi Water Crisis: Residents Struggle with Empty Vessels as Heatwave Intensifies

Amidst the scorching summer heat, Delhi residents are facing a widespread water crisis. The lack of water has left many scrambling after water tankers, with empty vessels in tow. People are enduring acute water scarcity and relying heavily on water tankers to meet their daily needs.

Video footage emerged from Okhla Phase 2, capturing the anxious rush of residents chasing after a water tanker to fill their vessels. Some individuals even resorted to jumping the queue and climbing atop the tanker to secure their water. In Chanakyapuri’s Sanjay camp, empty buckets lined up next to a water tanker, with residents patiently waiting their turn to fill their containers.

The Delhi government has taken the matter to the Supreme Court, seeking a directive to the Haryana government to release water flowing from Himachal Pradesh. The apex court will hear the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) plea on June 3rd, urging the immediate release of additional water from neighboring Haryana.

The situation in Delhi is dire, with water resources running dangerously low. Residents are facing an uphill battle to secure enough water for their daily needs, exacerbating the already challenging conditions brought on by the heatwave. With temperatures continuing to rise, the water crisis in Delhi remains a pressing concern for both residents and authorities.
