On Friday, a Delta Air Lines flight from New York to Los Angeles experienced the loss of an emergency slide shortly after takeoff. The incident occurred when the pilots of the Boeing 767, built in 1990, received a warning indicating a problem with the emergency slide on the aircraft’s right side. An abnormal noise was also detected.
The flight crew promptly felt a vibration and declared an emergency, swiftly rerouting back to JFK where the plane landed safely and proceeded to the gate under its own power. The aircraft was carrying 176 passengers, along with two pilots and five flight attendants.
Following the incident, Delta arranged for the passengers to continue their journey to California on a different aircraft. Delta removed the affected plane from service to undergo an evaluation and is collaborating with the authorities in the investigation and in locating the missing slide.
In a statement, Delta emphasized that the safety of its passengers and crew is paramount, highlighting that the flight crew utilized their thorough training and adhered to established safety procedures to manage the situation effectively.
