Radical Democrats’ Open Borders Agenda: A Peril to American Elections
Radical progressive Democrats have shed all pretense and are now openly admitting their plan to leverage open borders and the presence of tens of millions of illegal aliens in the United States to fundamentally transform America and secure one-party rule. For years, Democrats have decried alleged “foreign interference” in American elections, while simultaneously orchestrating a foreign influence scheme of their own. In early May, House Democrats unanimously opposed a bill that sought to exclude non-U.S. citizens from the Census count used to allocate congressional seats. In a Freudian slip, President Joe Biden referred to the millions of illegal aliens he has welcomed into the country as “voters.”
The right of U.S. citizens to vote in federal elections is enshrined in both federal law and the Constitution. However, while federal law prohibits non-citizens from voting in such elections, it also makes it virtually impossible for states to determine the citizenship status of individuals registering to vote or to identify and remove non-citizens from their voter rolls.
To address this glaring issue, Congressman Chip Roy has introduced the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act (H.R. 8281), which mandates proof of citizenship for voter registration in federal elections. This measure is vital to ensure that only citizens participate in our electoral process.
The National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), enacted in 1993, has been used by courts to strike down state election integrity laws that require proof of citizenship for voter registration in federal elections. This has led to absurd situations where, in Arizona, individuals who provide proof of citizenship receive a “full ballot” while those who do not provide such proof receive a “federal only” ballot. This means they can only vote in presidential and congressional elections. Thousands of voters are on the “federal only” list in Arizona, a border state that Biden narrowly won by just 10,000 votes in 2020.
The NVRA’s flaws extend beyond this. It mandates that states register applicants to vote at Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices, despite the fact that illegal aliens are eligible for driver’s licenses in 19 states. Additionally, the NVRA requires states to register voters at places like welfare offices. Many non-citizens, including over 1 million parolees released into the country by Biden, are eligible for welfare benefits, further complicating the issue.
A recent viral post highlighted the threat to election integrity, as a non-citizen was given a voter registration form with their Medicaid application in South Carolina. The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has stated that it is required by federal law to provide voter registration forms with each Medicaid application.
The only line of defense against non-citizens registering to vote at the DMV, welfare office, or by mail is a simple box-checking exercise, which states have no means of verifying. The SAVE Act, cosponsored by Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee and supported by Speaker Mike Johnson, aims to close these loopholes and rectify the shortcomings of our current system. It would require states to obtain documentary proof of citizenship before registering individuals to vote. It also directs states to remove non-citizens from their voter rolls and provides them with access to databases to facilitate this process.
Unsurprisingly, Democrats are vehemently opposing the SAVE Act. They claim that it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, conveniently ignoring the fact that it is nearly impossible for states to identify non-citizens during the voter registration process. As a former prosecutor, Congressman Roy emphasizes that criminals tend to commit crimes when there are inadequate barriers to doing so.
Democrats further assert that non-citizen voting is not an issue, a dubious claim given states’ limited ability to verify citizenship status. Moreover, non-citizens are already casting ballots in leftist jurisdictions like Washington, D.C., which actively encourages non-citizens to vote in local elections.

As Senator Lee has pointed out, Democrats passed legislation in the last Congress that allows the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to waive the inadmissibility of aliens who have illegally voted if doing so is deemed to be in the “public interest.” It appears that Democrats’ “public interest” is synonymous with their own electoral prospects.
Democrats’ vehement opposition to the SAVE Act, their refusal to exclude non-citizens from congressional apportionment, and their complicity in Biden’s mass release of nearly 5 million illegal aliens into the U.S. – on top of nearly 2 million gotaways – are clear evidence of their plans to fundamentally reshape America. We know that radical progressive Democrats intend to cheat; their playbook is no secret. Republicans must stand firm and fight for election integrity, or our country will face dire consequences.
