Denmark Wins Handball Bronze at Paris Olympics with Hoejlund’s 5-Goal Blitz

Denmark has secured a bronze medal in women’s handball at the Paris Olympics, overcoming Sweden 30-25 in a thrilling match. Mie Hoejlund starred for Denmark, showcasing a dominant performance with five goals. This victory marks Denmark’s first Olympic handball medal since their string of three consecutive Olympic titles, which culminated in the 2004 Athens Games.

Sweden’s players consoled a visibly dejected Johanna Bundsen, their goalkeeper, who sat in front of her goal with her head down after the match. She faced 17 shots, only managing to save two, while Sweden’s other goalkeeper, Evelina Eriksson, saved nine out of 24 shots. Nathalie Hagman led Sweden’s offensive effort, scoring five goals.

Later on Saturday, France will challenge two-time champion Norway for the gold medal, aiming to defend their title. Norway, a handball powerhouse, last claimed Olympic gold in 2012 and has secured bronze medals at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games. Notably, France’s women’s team achieved their first-ever Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
