Dentist’s botched implant sends screw into patient’s brain

A man in Turkey has had a dental implant removed from his brain cavity after a botched procedure at a private clinic.

Ramazan Yilmaz, 40, went to the clinic in Bursa with a toothache and was told he needed to have several teeth extracted and replaced with implants. During the surgery, the dentist allegedly pierced Yilmaz’s jawbone while forcing an implant into place.

Yilmaz said he felt a sharp pain and heard a bone-cracking sound, but the dentist reassured him that it was normal. However, the pain continued and Yilmaz was taken to a local hospital, where a CT scan revealed that the screw from the implant had pierced his jawbone and into the area behind the eye where the brain and spinal fluid are located.

Yilmaz underwent a hours-long operation to remove the screw, and he was discharged from hospital days later. He has since recovered from the ordeal, but says the dentist has refused to refund him and he is now taking legal action.

The dentist, who has not been named but is named in reports as A.D., is reportedly claiming that the incident occurred ‘due to a medical complication.’

Yilmaz’s case highlights the importance of choosing a qualified and experienced dentist for any dental procedure.
