Denza, the premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand owned by BYD Co., has officially launched pre-sales for its highly anticipated Z9GT hatchback. The brand aims to make a significant impact in the market by offering a compelling combination of competitive pricing and impressive performance.
Denza kicked off pre-sales at its launch event, setting the price range for the Z9GT at RMB 339,800 to RMB 419,800. This price point is notably lower than the previously speculated RMB 500,000, potentially making the Z9GT a more accessible option for consumers.
The Z9GT is built on BYD’s innovative e3 technology, making it the first vehicle to feature this platform. It boasts a remarkable power output of nearly 1,000 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in under four seconds, a feat that positions it among the fastest vehicles in its class.
Denza has announced that the official launch and start of deliveries for the Z9GT are scheduled for September. Alongside the Z9GT, Denza also unveiled the regular sedan version of the Z9, which will be available at the same price range as its sporty counterpart. The Z9 sedan is set to go on sale and start deliveries in the fourth quarter of this year.
The Z9GT is the initial model in Denza’s new Z series, with “GT” signifying “Grand Tourer,” hinting at the brand’s ambition to create a line of high-performance vehicles. Future additions to the Z series are expected to include more sedans.
Denza’s existing lineup comprises the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and the N7 and N8 SUVs (sport utility vehicles). Denza, a joint venture established in 2010 by BYD and Daimler, initially operated with each company holding a 50% stake. However, in February 2022, Daimler was rebranded as Mercedes, and BYD subsequently increased its stake in Denza to 90%, solidifying its position as the majority shareholder.
