Detroit Airport Embraces Sustainable Aviation Fuel with First Shipment from Montana Renewables
In a momentous move towards a greener future, Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) has received its first shipment of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from Montana Renewables, LLC (MRL). This marks a significant milestone in the airport’s journey to reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainable aviation practices.
The delivery of 7,000 gallons of SAF, produced from camelina oil, represents the first time DTW will have access to this innovative fuel source. It signifies a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and exploring alternative fuel options for the aviation industry. This shipment will be utilized by Delta Air Lines, demonstrating the growing collaboration between airlines and renewable fuel producers.
“Supplying the SAF to DTW marks another significant milestone in the decarbonization of air travel,” said Bruce Fleming, CEO of MRL. “Not only does it bring SAF to Detroit flights, but we are especially pleased to pioneer camelina oil as a non-food renewable that provides additional cash crop potential for farmers.”
