Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has expressed his confidence in Rohit Sharma’s leadership abilities as India gears up for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Dhawan believes that Sharma, alongside the brilliance of Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, will be crucial for the team’s success in the tournament.
Speaking to the Times of India ahead of the IPL 2024 playoffs, Dhawan stated, “Of course, there is lots of pressure playing for India in World Cups and Rohit is an experienced guy. I am sure his experience will come in handy, he knows how to soak the pressure and definitely, India will come out with flying colours.”
Dhawan also spoke highly of Kohli and Bumrah, emphasizing their importance to the team’s title bid. He described Kohli as the “chase master” whose mere presence on the field demoralizes the opposition, while he hailed Bumrah as the “world’s best bowler at the moment in all 3 formats”.
“Apart from Rohit, I feel Virat (Kohli) and Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) will be crucial for Team India’s success in the T20 World Cup. Virat is the chase master and his mere presence in the field demoralizes the opposition. Jasprit is the world’s best bowler at the moment in all 3 formats and if India are to win the World Cup, he will play a vital role in it,” Dhawan added.
With the inclusion of Hardik Pandya, who has been in impressive form for the Mumbai Indians, Dhawan believes that India has a well-rounded squad capable of challenging for the T20 World Cup title. India will be co-hosting the tournament alongside the United States and former champions West Indies later this year.
