Dhruv Jurel Equals MS Dhoni’s Record for Most Catches in a Duleep Trophy Innings

Dhruv Jurel, the wicketkeeper for India A, has etched his name in the record books by equaling former Indian captain MS Dhoni’s record for most catches by a wicketkeeper in a single innings of the Duleep Trophy. In a thrilling match against India B at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, Jurel snagged a remarkable seven catches in the second innings, helping India A limit the opposition to a score of 184.

Jurel’s feat takes him into the elite company of Dhoni and Sunil Benjamin, who hold the top three positions in the list of most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a single Duleep Trophy innings. Dhoni, playing for East Zone in the 2004-05 season, broke Sunil Benjamin’s previous record of six catches by taking seven catches against Central Zone.

Interestingly, Benjamin himself holds the second position on this list with six catches and one stumping against North Zone in the Duleep Trophy final in 1973. Sadanand Viswanat, another wicketkeeper who achieved six catches in an innings, completes the top four.

Jurel’s remarkable display behind the stumps demonstrates his exceptional talent and agility. His contributions helped India A secure a crucial victory in the match, highlighting his important role in the team’s success.
