Diamond League Boosts Prize Money to Record $9 Million for 2025 Season

The Diamond League, the premier global athletics series, is raising the stakes for its athletes in 2025 with a record-breaking prize money increase. The organizers announced on Wednesday that the total purse will exceed $9 million, making it the most lucrative season in the event’s history. This substantial investment will see athletes collectively earn $18 million, with top performers also receiving promotional fees. Notably, the Diamond League has committed to equal pay for both male and female athletes, a testament to its commitment to gender equity.

The statement highlighted that the new total prize money represents a significant leap, exceeding the amount paid during the pandemic-affected period of 2021-2024 by nearly a third. Furthermore, the organizers are investing more in athletes’ travel, accommodation, medical care, and physiotherapy services, ensuring a comprehensive and supportive environment for top performers.

Each of the 14 regular season meets, scheduled to commence in April, will offer a prize pool of $500,000, with the grand finale in August boasting a substantial $2.24 million payout. The statement also clarified that individual disciplines will receive prize money ranging from $30,000 to $50,000 at the series meetings and between $60,000 to $100,000 at the final.

With the Diamond League’s 2024 season concluded in Brussels, Zurich is set to host the culminating event of the 2025 season. This significant boost in prize money promises to further elevate the competition and attract even more of the world’s best athletes to the Diamond League, making it an even more thrilling spectacle for fans worldwide.
