Diddy’s Racketeering and Sex Trafficking Trial Set for May 2024

Music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is set to face a major legal battle. A court hearing on Thursday confirmed that his trial for racketeering and sex trafficking charges will commence on May 5, 2024. The decision was made by Judge Arun Subramanian, who also ruled that Combs will remain in custody until the trial.

This case has garnered significant attention, particularly due to the judge presiding over it. Judge Arun Srinivas Subramanian, appointed to the Southern District of New York in March 2023, holds a historic distinction: he is the first South Asian to serve on this bench. He was chosen to oversee this trial after Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr. recused himself from the case.

Judge Subramanian’s legal background is impressive. Born in Pittsburgh to Indian immigrant parents, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and English from Case Western Reserve University. He went on to graduate from Columbia Law School, where he excelled academically and served as Executive Articles Editor for the Columbia Law Review. His legal career began as a law clerk for Judge Dennis Jacobs on the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He later worked for Judge Gerard E Lynch in the Southern District of New York and even clerked for the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Prior to his appointment as a judge, Subramanian was a successful partner at Susman Godfrey LLC in New York City, specializing in commercial and bankruptcy law.

The upcoming trial promises to be a high-profile event, drawing significant attention from the media and public alike. The legal teams for both sides are sure to be meticulously prepared, and the outcome will have far-reaching implications for Combs and the music industry.
