On the second day of Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025, Dior unveiled a runway show that celebrated the intersection of athleticism and couture. A star-studded audience, including Jisoo and Aya Nakamura, gathered at the Rodin Museum to witness Maria Grazia Chiuri’s latest collection for the French fashion house.
The Spring/Summer 2025 collection presented a bold departure, merging ready-to-wear designs with a distinct sporty aesthetic. This fusion isn’t entirely new to Dior’s history. Monsieur Dior, deeply inspired by his mother’s equestrian lifestyle, introduced the iconic Amazone silhouette in the Fall/Winter 1951-1952 collection. This powerful silhouette, reinterpreted by Chiuri for the latest collection, embodies the essence of Dior’s commitment to women’s liberation through fashion.
Dior’s history with sportswear dates back to 1947, when the house first unveiled tailored suits crafted from technical fabrics, innovative swimsuits, and ski outfits. Fashion, for Dior, was not about constraint but about empowering women to embrace their individuality and freedom of movement. In 1962, Marc Bohan launched Dior Sport, a line of sportswear silhouettes designed in collaboration with Christian Dior. This line, made with Elsatiss fabric, coincided with the opening of the first Christian Dior boutiques, signifying a pivotal moment in the democratization of fashion. Dior aimed to provide women with a dynamic wardrobe that reflected their independent spirit and liberated lifestyles.
The Spring/Summer 2025 collection marks a logical evolution, building upon Dior’s commitment to celebrating sports. The House had already embraced this theme in its Fall/Winter 2024-2025 haute couture collection, as well as its collaboration with inspiring female athletes during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The collection’s message of empowerment is further amplified through the collaboration with Sofia Ginevra Gianni, also known as SAGG Napoli, a multidisciplinary Neapolitan artist. SAGG Napoli, who took up archery as a form of self-care and mental health support, performed throughout the runway show, embodying the collection’s core message: “May the building of a strong mind and a strong body be the greatest work I have ever made.”
The collection itself exudes a sense of alluring assertiveness. Silhouettes crafted from technical fabrics drape like a second skin, their black and white palette creating a graphic and timeless dimension. Hybrid footwear designed for a fast-paced lifestyle includes boots made from unexpected materials and knee-high sneakers.
Dior’s Spring/Summer 2025 ready-to-wear collection transcends the brand’s classical aesthetic. The ensembles are contemporary, almost futuristic, with the Miss Dior logo subtly elongated. The collection embraces a play of contrasts, balancing black and white, strength and softness, and the delicate femininity of a white shirt with the robustness of a black skirt, all punctuated by exquisite embroidery. This meticulous craftsmanship serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Dior ateliers.
