Direct Flights from Bismarck to St. Pete-Clearwater Now Available
Travelers from North Dakota now have a more convenient option for flying to the St. Petersburg-Clearwater area in Florida. Previously requiring at least two flights, the journey can now be made directly to the St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport.
On May 15, Bismarck Airport introduced a new direct flight to St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport via Allegiant. This new service is expected to save considerable travel time for frequent flyers like Paulette Allan. Allan, who often travels to Florida, expressed her delight at the new direct route, noting that she used to rely on layovers for such trips. She also mentioned her wish for a similar direct flight to Jacksonville.
Airport Director Gregory Haug shared that they anticipate outcomes akin to those experienced when they previously introduced flights to Las Vegas. He explained that an increase in users brings in more fees, which in turn enables further enhancements to the airport’s infrastructure. Haug emphasized that this development is beneficial for the community, the surrounding region, and the airport itself.
Haug detailed that the new service includes two direct flights to Florida each week, specifically on Wednesdays and Saturdays. These flights are operated using an Airbus 319, which can accommodate 156 passengers. To mark the inaugural flight, the airport distributed beach balls and pies to travelers. Haug mentioned that the choice of pie was inspired by the abbreviation for St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport.
The introduction of this direct flight is anticipated to significantly impact airline tourism in the region. It offers travelers from Bismarck a more streamlined and efficient route to a popular Florida destination. Additionally, the economic benefits from increased passenger traffic are expected to support further developments at Bismarck Airport, enhancing its capacity to serve the community better. This new connection not only boosts convenience for travelers but also underscores the ongoing efforts to expand and improve regional air travel infrastructure.
