Six individuals tragically lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries in an explosion that occurred on Thursday at an explosives manufacturing unit in Nagpur. The incident took place around 1 pm at Chamundi Explosives Pvt Ltd, located in Dhamna village, approximately 25 kilometers from Nagpur city.
The blast occurred in the factory’s packaging unit, and the deceased individuals were working at the time of the incident. Police have arrested Jay Khemka, the director of Chamundi Explosives Pvt Ltd, and Sagar Deshmukh, the manager, in connection with the explosion. They are facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances and causing death or grievous hurt due to rash or negligent acts.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari visited the site of the explosion earlier on Friday to take stock of the situation. Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the blast.
According to officials from Hingna police station, nine individuals were injured in the explosion, six of whom later succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The deceased included five women and one man. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention.
Relatives of the victims expressed their anguish and frustration, alleging that company officials have not yet contacted them regarding the incident or offered any assistance. Manisha Chawre, wife of one of the injured victims, stated that her husband has suffered severe burns and that she has not been contacted by company representatives.
The Maharashtra government has announced that financial assistance will be provided to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Assistance Fund.
