Publisher THQ Nordic has announced that Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, a remake of the 2011 Wii platformer, will launch on all modern platforms on September 24th. Preorders for the game are now open. The original game was exclusive to the Wii, but Rebrushed will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Early preorders come with some bonuses, including the Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Costume Pack, offering three alternate costumes for Mickey: Steamboat Willie, Brave Little Tailor, and Football Mickey. Players who preorder will also gain 24-hour early access to the game, excluding PC players.
The standard digital version of the game will cost $60. However, THQ Nordic has also unveiled a collector’s edition, priced at $200, which includes a physical copy of the game for your preferred platform, a collector’s steelbook, a 28-centimeter Mickey Mouse paintbrush statue, an Oswald the Lucky Rabbit keychain, a vintage-designed Mickey Mouse tin sign, six Epic Mickey postcards, and the Epic Mickey: Rebrushed costume pack.
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a complete remake of the original Epic Mickey, developed by Junction Point Studios and published by Disney Interactive Studios in 2011. The game was helmed by Warren Spector, known for his work on the Ultima series and Deus Ex. Spector made a surprise appearance in the release date trailer, though his involvement in the remake, which is being handled by Purple Lamp, remains unclear.
This is truly a remake, not just a port. While Epic Mickey was criticized for its clunky Wii controls that hindered painting in the game world, Digital Trends discovered in a demo that the redesigned Switch controls have significantly improved these aspects. Although the visuals might not be drastically different from the original, the game has been rebuilt from the ground up.
