Disney’s theme park expansion plans include both land and IP, and the company is also developing a range of new films and television shows based on its popular rides.
One of the most anticipated projects is a reboot-quel of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Two scripts are in the works, with one potentially starring Margot Robbie as a female pirate captain. Another exciting project is a series and a live-action film based on the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, a fictional secret society that connects theme park rides and Disney film universes.
Disney is also developing film adaptations of several other popular rides, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, and Journey Into Imagination With Figment. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad film will be directed by Bert and Bertie, the duo behind the hit film ‘Booksmart.’ The Space Mountain film will be written by the writers of Netflix’s ‘The Adam Project.’ And the Journey Into Imagination With Figment film will be produced by Seth Rogen and written by the writers of ‘Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.’
In addition to these ride-based projects, Disney is also developing a biopic of Walt Disney and a horror film adaptation of the Tower of Terror attraction. The Walt Disney biopic will center on Walt Disney’s risky venture to build Disneyland, while the Tower of Terror film will star Scarlett Johansson.
Disney’s expansion plans are sure to excite fans of the company’s theme parks and films. With a wide range of projects in development, there’s something for everyone to look forward to.
